"Bugs, bones, and badlands"

Films: The Bone Snatcher (2003)

Alias: None

Type: Unknown, possibly Mystical

Location: Desert

Height/Weight: Typically that of an average human.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: Seeing an undead person get up from his/her grave is old news for us, as far as we're concerned. But wait. That's no man. That's thousands of biting insects working together to form an absolute nightmare. And at least there was only one of them where the undead corpses are concerned.

History: Somewhere in the South African deserts, there is an unseen killer disrupting mining operations. As it turns out, there is a monster known as Esikhulu stalking about. In truth, it's a colony of hyper-intelligent ants that congregate into a single living being that bears the likeness of a living skeleton due to them collecting the bones of their victims.

Notable Kills: Pray you don't see this beast while the flesh is still attached to its grisly trophies.

Final Fate: After the ants' combined form is dispersed, the queen ant that commands the thousands of little killers is impaled with a dagger, killing all of the ants in the vicinity. However, it is later shown that a second queen has stowed away on a small truckā€¦

Powers/Abilities: Esikhulu is a collective of ants that can work together to form a single being, always a humanoid one due to people being its only known food source. If it needs to avoid damage to the colony, it will simply disperse and reform again. It is also known to infect the water with acidic juices.

Weakness: If the queen bug is killed, the rest of the colony follows.

Scariness Factor: 3-Nevermind the bad CGI, Esikhulu is a very creative and terrifying prospect of a monster. A hideously insane ant colony that wears the parts of its victims that it's not interested in and can strip you to the bone is nothing to joke about. If only it had a higher effects budget, then this thing would soar with fright.

Trivia: -Certain ant species, such as fire ants, do work together to form larger structures, albeit non-lethal ones. Usually, they form bridges by holding on to one another with their mandibles to cross treacherous terrain.

-Esikhulu means "large" in the Zulu language. It is also the name of a place in South Africa.
