"Soul droll"

Films: Soulkeeper (2001)

Alias: None

Type: Mystical

Location: Civilized Area/Forest

Height/Weight: Slightly larger than that of an average human.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: When the world needs heroes...it really can't be picky. Sometimes, what we need isn't necessarily what we want, even if our foe is a malevolent man from centuries ago out to wreck the world with a gathering of demons.

History: Long ago, the evil Simon Magus claimed to be the son of God, and attempted to instigate an era of total darkness. Instead, he got sealed away. But all of that quickly changed during the present era, when he rose again in human guise to possess people and unleash demons upon the populace. Now, he's got an entire cult of damned souls out to steal bodies to harass the living. Only a couple of bumbling convicts stand any chance of preventing Magus' rise via the sacred Rock of Lazarus.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After many a demon is evaded and/or destroyed, our heroes confront Magus in his true demonic form, and destroy him via the Rock of Lazarus and a bomb. One of the duo dies, but is reincarnated as the others' girlfriend's dog.

Powers/Abilities: Magus can possess people so that he can hide his true form, which is almost indestructible, and can fire bursts of power from the pentagram on his chest.

Weakness: Magus' body must be destroyed before he can possess another, but his soul will be defeated via heavy artillery or the Rock of Lazarus, which has the special power to send any soul back to the afterlife.

Scariness Factor: 3-Although some CGI shots make his true form look like some spindly digital frog thing, Magus shines when the practical effects rear their head and bring out his admittingly still amusingly skinny demonic form. He's not too shabby as a cult leader either.

Trivia: -The actual Simon Magus of Apostle lore was the posterchild for a bad Samaritan. He was infamous for bribing people with payment to make him more powerful, and was an enemy to Saint Peter. His character coined the phrase, simony, to describe getting more power in the church through payment.

-This film was also known as "Our Souls to Keep" and "The Chosen Ones".
