Summary: There are many cryptids out there, some more terrifying and mysterious than others. And among the most enigmatic and unnerving of them all is the Mothman of West Virginia. All we know is that it's a surefire sign that things will go wrong whenever it shows up. Or, if Pumpkinhead isn't around and someone needs to fill the role of "demon summoned to exact vengeance for a kid".
History: In Point Pleasant, West Virginia, some teens accidentally drowned their friend and tried to cover up their tracks. Ten years later, they're all back in the area, and realize that something is hunting them down one by one. It is the fabled Mothman, which was said to have inhabited the place since ancient times as an evil spirit of vengeance, particularly when the few Indians there summoned it to punish the white man. But the monster has been summoned again because...of a completely different incident involving a kid getting run over. Either way, no one is safe from the marauding demon.
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: After being summoned at the Mothman Festival, the beast is seemingly put down forever when a special dagger is shoved into its chest, causing it to dissipate into moths. But then it shows up to kill the last guy anyway.
Powers/Abilities: Travels through reflective surfaces, and is practically indestructible. It can also dissipate into moths to get out of sticky situations.
Weakness: A special bone-dagger can harm it.
Scariness Factor: 3.5-It's a crying shame that this thing has such horrible CGI going for it. The overall look of this pitch-black thing is downright ghoulish, especially with that elongated, perpetually moaning expression. Combined with how unkillable it is, we are now wishing someone with a bigger budget handled this.
Trivia: -The Mothman is one of the most feared cryptids because it is often seen as an omen of death. This was particularly poignant when in 1967, the Silver Bridge connected to Point Pleasant collapsed and killed about 46 people. It was said that the Mothman was sighted at the time, and many saw it as the catalyst for the misfortune.
-Despite this, the Mothman is a celebrated part of West Virginia's culture. The Mothman Festival is real, and there is even a statue dedicated to it in Point Pleasant. Some people have even suggested that all Confederate statues in the area just be replaced with Mothman statues. Now THAT would be awesome.
