“Yow-chie”

Films: Throwback (2014)

Alias: None

Type: Natural

Location: Forest

Height/Weight: That of an average human.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: In our quest to see all the ape men of the world, we come to the sacred grounds of Australia. The lands where nature kept some of the most tenacious of creatures, and left them there for us to see. No, not everything wants you dead, but this primitive hominid sure does!

History: Deep within the Australian woodlands, there lies the mysterious Yowie, a humanoid ape that has terrorized many people and puzzled all who have witnessed it. But for some people, its Outback homeland is more valuable for its gold than its monstrous occupant. And thus, a bunch of treasure hunters stumble into the Yowie's turf, and naturally regret it soon afterward.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After killing many, the Yowie is finally brought down when it gets impaled by a spear, and when it tries to limp towards the survivors, it steps on a lit stick of dynamite, which blows up, and causes it to completely disappear. Whether there is another Yowie or not is left ambiguous.

Powers/Abilities: None.

Weakness: Anything conventional.

Scariness Factor: 4-We rarely see the Yowie, but when we do, it's a fairly standard guy in a fur suit. But what makes it stand out is that not only is the fur rather well-made, but the creature's face is constantly shrouded in shadow, as if it were too hideous for anyone to see. Quite fitting for such a savage cryptid.

Trivia: -The Yowie is Australia's answer to the American bigfoot. Its earliest origins are in Aboriginal folklore around the Outback. They say that the beast, also known as a litany of other aliases like the Yaroma or the Ghindaring, is a demon from the Dreamtime, eating any who dare cross its path. However, it is debatable as to whether the actual Yowie is shy or aggressive.

-For some reason, this film was dedicated to Ray Harryhausen, the masterful special effects artist who had died in 2013.
