"Parents of the Century"

Films: Gappa: The Triphibian Monster (1967)

Alias: None

Type: Ancient

Location: Underground/Jungle/Ocean/Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Up to as tall as a large building and weighing about 6,000 metric tons.

Affiliation: Neutral, leaning on Good

Summary: DON'T. STEAL. A MONSTER'S. KID!!! Do you find it horrible when someone takes your child away from you?! Or in this case, one that's JUST BEEN BORN?! If not, then you can go get stomped by the mated pair of Gappa that trashed Japan for a while.

History: On a place known as Obelisk Island, the Gappa used to rule supreme. But now the population can be counted on one hand, and all that remains of the majority are bones. A group of people led by an avaricious magazine president came there, and happened to find a hatching individual underground. Seeing endless profit and cruel experimentation in the beast, they took it before it even saw its parents. Speaking of which, they heard its cries, and almost immediately went on the warpath, heading to Japan to find their child and make the humans PAY. "Gappa angry" indeed.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: Greed cannot pay for the damage done, and the humans reluctantly give the baby back. After lovingly embracing their child, they quickly show it the ropes about flying. A quick learner, the baby flies with its parents back home into the distant sunset.

Powers/Abilities: The Gappa, in spite of their size, can fly with grace on large wings, as well as shoot thermonuclear breath similar to Godzilla.

Weakness: The young are skilled, but weak.

Scariness Factor: 3-Had the humans been a bit conscious with their actions, this mess could have been avoided. While not the most intimidating kaiju, the Gappa are amazing parents, treating their young like the most important thing in the world and willing to eradicate the masses for its sake.

Trivia: -"Triphibian" means "one well equipped for land, sea, and air".

-This is the only kaiju film made by Nikkatsu, the oldest film studio in Japan (founded in 1912).

Gappa not angry. GAPPA FURIOUS!

Really, America?!

At least those wings aren't just for show.

Godzilla stomps on a nearby structure and doesn't know why.

Did you just think bird monsters weren't intimidating?

All because of a magazine publisher.
