Films: Rabid (1977)
Alias: Various, such as Rose
Location: Civilized area
Height/Weight: That of average humans.
Summary: Before horrifying us with his body horror and vicious remakes, David Cronenberg gave us his spin on the whole Zombie genre. Yes, that film from last year may count, but it had flesh slugs, and this one doesn't.
History: Rose needed plastic surgery after a near-fatal motorcycle incident. What she failed to realize was that the experimental surgery gave her a barbed gland below her armpit that's meant to suck blood, as she now has to live on it. After draining a drunk farmer, it gets worse. Turns out, anyone touched by the barb gets zombified, as do the people killed by said zombies. It's a rabid epidemic that may not be able to be stopped.
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: A shoot-to-kill policy is instigated regarding the infected, and Rose is killed by one of them, despite being a possible carrier of a cure. It'll be a long time before the city of Montreal gets cleared out of any infected.
Powers/Abilities: Most are still intelligent enough to use tools, such as jackhammers. Also, anyone who dies by their teeth will come back and join their ranks.
Weakness: Anything conventional.
Scariness Factor: 3.5-Nigh-unkillable numbers, ravenous appetites, manic expressions. Yep, these zombie apocalypses are Hell, indeed.
Trivia: -Sissy Spacek was originally the lead, but that was scrapped due to her accent.
-A remake was proposed by the Soska Sisters, a duo of directors, but nothing resembling production has come to fruition.
