"Ninjas, samurais, and aliens"

Films: Moon Over Tao: Makaraga (1997)

Alias: None

Type: Alien

Location: Civilized Area

Height/Weight: Twice that of an average bull elephant.

Affiliation: Neutral, leaning on Evil

Summary: Back when the way of the samurai was still honored and the people wielded swords and honor as one. Now that sounds like an interesting setting for a sci-fi tale to take place. And sure enough, someone took advantage of that premise. And what a story it was!

History: In 16-century Japan, a new metal has come from the stars. There are those who want to make it into indestructible weapons, but at the same time never consider where it came from. In truth, it is extraterrestrial, and alongside it came the vessel for Makaraga, a hideous bio-weapon made from the bloodshed of ancient alien enemies. Three alien women have come to stop it, and it is up to them but mostly some wayward heroes to stop Makaraga's rampage before it can begin.

Notable Kills: Massacres an entire group of warriors...as a baby. By launching at them and turning them into blood sprinklers. And that's how he grows.

Final Fate: Makaraga is finally stopped when a young girl unleashes an alien device known as the Tao, which halts it and causes the alien metal to summon a great Goddess to seal away the monster forever.

Powers/Abilities: Makaraga grows bigger and stronger with the amount of bloodshed it's exposed to. It can also regenerate to an absurd degree, and emit a deafening roar that can make your ears bleed.

Weakness: Only the Tao device can both subdue and imprison it.

Scariness Factor: 3.5-If it weren't for those dodgy CGI shots of this monstrosity, then Makaraga would have a much higher rank. This demonic-looking crab-man-centaur thing literally bathes in the blood of its prey, and was so bad that its creators sealed it away. Had it not been for the Tao, this monster would have destroyed Japan in an afternoon.

Trivia: -This film was known in Germany as "Swordsman and Warlord vs. Evil".

-Makaraga's design seems to be based on the Ushi-Oni, a powerful Yokai that is often characterized as a beast with the features of a bull and a crab or spider. This description is mostly exclusive to the Shimane Prefecture, where the Yokai is accompanied by the Nurre-Onna, which makes it harder for victims to escape.
